Channel Screed
Manufacturer's Specification
Channel Screeds are standard extruded aluminum alloy 6063 T5 and are .050 thick. Channel Screeds shall have a standard Clear Anodized finish. Mill and Alodine finishes as well as other factory finishes and custom paint orders are available. Refer to Finishes for details. For intersections, corners, radius shapes, and channel stops see below. See Venting Options category for venting options.
Install all Channel Screeds over building paper on vertical surfaces using full ten-foot lengths wherever possible. Attach Channel Screeds to the framing with nails, screws, or other approved fastening methods. All screeds must be cut accurately and installed with tight, neat joints. Vinyl Connector Clips are available to ease installation and align one piece of Channel Screed to another. All nailing flanges must be covered with lath and all butt joints must be sealed. Manufacturer recommends that a carbide tip blade along with lubricant be used when cutting any aluminum trims.
For Drywall Application: Drywall must be inserted over the nailing flanges, and then tucked behind the 3/16" channel key.

Intersections and Corners
Flannery offers intersections and corners for intricate building designs that utilize intersecting lines and bands around exterior or interior walls. These junctions can be produced in the field using Alignment Splices or can be ordered from the factory as prefabricated welded units to ease installation. A seal is then applied to the back of the intersecting butt joints. Prefabricated intersections and corners are mitered and then welded at the nailing flanges. Tee and 4-way Intersections can also be ordered as notched units. All nailing flanges must be covered with lath and all butt joints must be sealed.

Radius Shapes

Eliminating Joints
Intersecting lines can be a difficult job for even the most experienced installer. Flannery offers several solutions for reducing the time and labor involved in joining multiple lines of trim that intersect at the same point. Flannery’s Grid System gives the installer all of the vertical lines of trim with notches at specified intervals in order to install the horizontal lines of trim quickly and cleanly. Another solution for joints is Flannery’s Square Panel System. The Square Panel System is an excellent solution for large grid formations. Once the installer establishes the proper layout with one horizontal line and one vertical line, he can attach the first square on those lines allowing the rest of the squares to line up. All nailing flanges must be covered with lath and all butt joints must be sealed.

Sealant & Vinyl Connector Clips
1. Sealant is required at all butt joints
2. Vinyl Connector Clips are required for Flannery's Plaster Channel Screeds.
3. Use Flannery's Aluminum Alignment Splices or Vinyl Connector Clips to align moldings.
Stucco Key Holes
Flannery offers Stucco Key Holes to enable the installer to place screeds over the lath and the water barrier. The holes are ½” in diameter and are punched 1¼” on center. These holes allow the screed to be installed over the wire lath with tie wire, thus protecting the waterproof membrane. Trim with these Stucco Key Holes must be installed with tie wire only. Upon completion of screed installation, strip lath must be attached over all nailing flanges. All butt joints must be sealed. Stucco Key Holes are available on all sizes of Flannery’s Plaster Channel Screeds. Screed selection must be in accordance with the proper plaster thickness specified.
Channel End Cap
Flannery recommends the Channel End Cap when any channel terminates at a door or window frame. The Channel End Cap is easily slipped onto the end of the butting channel and creates an even and clean channel stop. All nailing flanges must be covered with lath and all butt joints must be sealed. Channel End Caps are available for any size of Flannery’s Plaster Channel Screeds.
Beveled End Enclosure
The Beveled End Enclosure is a product that was designed to allow any Channel Screed to butt up against stucco corners. The unique angle and plaster key of the Beveled End Enclosure is ideal for separating the channel from the stucco layer. All nailing flanges must be covered with lath and all butt joints must be sealed. The Beveled End Enclosure is available for any size of Flannery’s Channel Screeds. Flannery can weld them to specific lengths of material or provide them separately.

This website presents general guidelines and suggestions for the installation of Flannery trims and products. The purpose of these general guidelines and suggestions is to aid in a successful drywall or stucco finish based on the Uniform Building Code and industry standards. No website or catalog can address all of the unique specifics or installation details that occur from one project to another. Flannery recommends that every installer be familiar, or become acquainted with, common drywall and stucco trim installation practices before installing any of Flannery's many trims and products. Flannery also reccommends that the specifying architect, engineer, and general contractor be consulted with as well. This website replaces and renders obsolete all previous publications by Flannery; including catalogs, pamphlets, or other forms of literature.
