The City of Portsmouth Circuit Court Building is a six courtroom, 90,000 square-foot building in downtown Portsmouth, Virginia. The building will contain all of the city’s courts in one central location and will anchor a major downtown intersection. The new Courthouse was built with special wood panels that make up its interior.

Flannery worked closely with the lead architect on this project as they designed six new extruded aluminum trims, which outline the pre-fabricated wood panels utilized throughout the courthouse’s corridors and main courtrooms. It took over 14-months to work out all of the design issues that the architect wanted to address before the new trims were brought to fruition.

The trims that were manufactured had heavy wall thicknesses and were utilized as reveals, base moldings, and outside corner moldings. In total, over 14,000 feet of aluminum trims were provided for the project.
