Flannery’s deflection track clip known as the “Comp Clip” (Patent #US-2008-0110113-A1) is a reusable steel track accessory that holds steel studs (or possibly wood studs) in place while the studs are inserted into the head of wall track. The Comp Clip positions the stud in place while at the same time allowing it to have 100% unobstructed movement. Another feature of the Comp Clip is that the installer can install both clips for the same stud from one side of the wall, thus reducing the amount of time it takes to install a stud. The Comp Clip can be ordered with either a 1-3/8″ or 1-5/8″ slot for whichever size stud the job requires.
Manufacturer's Specifications
Flannery’s Comp Clip is composed of 20 gauge Spring Steel and can be reused or left in place. The Comp Clip is inserted around a metal stud and then “slid” into position over the deflection track. Installer can center the Comp Clip and stud to the track layout by using the center hole cut-out in the Comp Clip. Pre-punched holes are provided at each end of the Comp Clip should local building codes require fasteners. Since Flannery’s Comp Clips hold studs in position while gypsum board is attached to those studs, Comp Clips can be removed before the last strip of gypsum board is installed. This allows the installer to remove and then reuse the clips on another wall.

Comp Clips at Door and Window Openings
Flannery’s Comp Clips can be utilized at all door and window framing members. Every door and window requires double studs on both sides, yet this does not keep the Comp Clip from doing the job. Simply cut the Comp Clip in half and insert one around the one side of the double studs and the other around the other side. A fastener through each Comp Clip is required for this type of installation. Comp Clips should not be removed from around double stud installations.
Door & Window Framing Application
Flannery’s Comp Clip can also be utilized at all door and window framing members. Every door and window requires double studs on both sides, yet this does not keep the Comp Clip from doing the job. Simply cut the Comp Clip in half and insert one around the one side of the double studs and the other around the other side. A fastener through each piece of Comp Clip is required for this type of installation.
