Short Drywall Key Edge

Trim Purpose

Specs, MSDS, and LEED Information for Flannery Trims & Products

Flannery’s Short Drywall Ceiling Key Edge (SDKE) creates a knife edge effect for the perimeter of a suspended drywall ceiling. It allows for a drywall cloud to have a subtle, sloped edge where the trim is installed, mudded and finished to the edge of a drywall ceiling.

Manufacturer's Specs

Flannery’s Short Acoustical Key Edge trims are a standard extruded aluminum product with a 6063 T5 alloy with varying wall thicknesses. The SAKE trims are sold in 10′ lengths and come with attachment clips and splices to ease their integration into the suspended ceiling system. Flannery stocks all Strata Trims in our Cloud White factory paint finish or Mill Finish for field painting.
Flannery’s Cloud White paint is a factory applied Kynar finish. In addition to our standard finishes, Strata trims can also be ordered in any liquid or powder-coated paint finish. Custom paint orders can be quoted, and samples prepared for approval. Additional finishes include anodizing, polishing, brushing, and “wood-grain” applications. Take a look at all of our factory finishes that we have to offer and if you can’t find what you are looking for, contact us and let us know and we can get you what you need.

Installation Details

Connect the Short Drywall Key Edge trim to the suspended ceiling grid using the 45 degree Ceiling Grid Clips that are provided. Rotate the Ceiling Grid Clip into the slots on the back of the SDKE trim and tighten the lock screw. Then attach the 45 Degree Ceiling Grid Clip to the acoustical ceiling grid. Placement of the grid’s hanger wire must not be more than 12 inches from where the trim connects to the grid. Distance between grid attachments must not exceed 48 inches.
Gypsum Board should be attached to suspended ceiling track and laid flush against the lower leg of the SDKE. Apply compound joint over the flange and feather accordingly. Use the Ceiling Cloud Trim Splices included to connect one piece of trim to the next for level and clean butt joints. All Strata Cloud trims must be cut accurately and installed with tight, neat joints. Manufacturer recommends that a carbide tip blade along with blade lubricant be used when cutting any aluminum trim.
